脱贫攻坚会议领导讲话稿

BEIJING, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held a telephone conversation with his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama on bilateral ties Friday, with both sides expressing the willingness to further the ties.     The Chinese president said China is ready to strengthen dialogue, promote mutual trust and expand cooperation with the United States in a bid to confront various global challenges together and push forward a stable development of the Sino-U.S. relationship.     Hu said the core interest of either country should be respected by each other and taken into consideration.     As the contagious financial crisis is still producing severe influence to national economies and people's lives, the international community should strengthen coordination and promote closer cooperation to stand up to the challenge, Hu said.     Describing the Sino-U.S. ties as the most important bilateral relations for both sides, Obama said enhancing bilateral constructive dialogue and cooperation is in the interest of not only the two countries themselves, but the world at large.     The U.S. side is expecting closer cooperation with China on major international and regional issues, he said, adding that the U.S. government is willing to join hands with China to develop a more active and constructive bilateral relationship.     Hu Jintao said China acknowledged U.S. efforts in stabilizing the financial market and stimulating the economy, adding that China is willing to further strengthen communication and coordination with the U.S. side in macroeconomic policies, and firmly oppose trade and investment protectionism.     Hu said China will join hands with the United States to work toward fruitful achievements in April's Group of 20 (G20) summit in London and promote healthy and stable development of the world economy and finance.     Obama said it is crucial for the United States and China, the two most important economies, to enhance cooperation.     Both sides exchanged visit invitations. The two leaders agreed to meet in the Group of 20 (G20) summit slated for April in London.

BEIJING, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The pursuit of harmony is a basic value and the fundamental spirit of Chinese culture, State Councilor Liu Yandong told representatives of the 2008 Beijing Forum on Friday.     More than 300 scholars from more than 40 countries participated in the forum, with the theme "The Harmony of Civilization and Prosperity for All-The Universal Value and the Development Trend of Civilization."     Liu congratulated the forum, saying its theme was highly significant.     She said the concept of harmony had become a key criterion in many types of relations: among peoples, between individuals and society, among nationalities and states, among cultures and between humans and nature.     "It is especially important for academic and educational institutions to promote multinational cultural communication under globalization," said Liu.     Co-sponsored by Peking University, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies, the Beijing Forum 2008 -- the fifth such annual meeting -- convened on Nov. 7. The forum will focus on the environment, the Olympic spirit and the global financial crisis.

UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government is actively promoting the relief of tension in Gaza, and China is ready to work with the international community to bring all the parties concerned back to the negotiation table at an early date in a bid to achieve the peaceful, just and durable settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli issue, a Chinese envoy said here Tuesday.     Zhang Yesui, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, made the statement as he was speaking at the closed-door meeting of the UN Security Council on the Gaza conflict, which has left more than 900 Palestinians killed and 4,000 others injured.     Zhang told the Security Council that the Chinese special envoy on the Middle East issue, Sun Bigan, began his visit to Egypt, Israel and Palestine on Sunday for mediation for peace in the region.     China is gravely concerned about the growing escalation of tension in Gaza, and it is regrettable to see that the new Security Council resolution, adopted last Thursday to call for an immediate, durable and fully respected ceasefire, went unheeded by warring parties, he said.     At present, the top priority is to achieve the full implementation of the UN truce resolution -- the immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, a halt to the firing of rockets into Israel by the armed Palestinian faction, and unimpeded access of Gaza to the humanitarian relief goods, he said.     At the Tuesday council meeting, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon briefed 15 council members on his upcoming visit to the Middle East, which will take him to Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and Kuwait.

The two sides voiced commitment to boost the bilateral relations and enhance their cooperation to a higher level.     "The facts have already proved that the growth of the China-Gabon relations not only benefits the two countries and their people, but also helps to promote the peace and development of the world," Wu told Coniquet.     Wu arrived here on Thursday afternoon for a two-day official visit to Gabon. BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's quality watchdog said on Thursday it found toxic chemicals in food products imported from Japan.     Tests conducted by Guangdong Entry-Exit inspection and quarantine institution found Japan-produced soy sauce and mustard sauce were contaminated by toluene and acetic ester, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) said on its website.     The food products were produced by three Japanese factories. But GAQSIQ didn't reveal the names of the producers.     Maximal toluene content was 0.0053 mg per kg, while acetic ester content was 0.537 mg per kg. This would risk people's health, said experts.     Toluence and acetic ester are chemicals that can be used as dyeware, paint and solvent. It will lead to headache and vomit if people eat the food tainted with them.     The GAQSIQ has ordered Chinese importers to inspect and test products of the same kind and remove them from shelves, in a bid to ensure consumer safety.     No sickness were reported in China, but earlier Japanese media said some Japanese people felt sick after eating food tainted by the two chemicals.
