The opera, based on a Chinese classic, was staged first in the 1960s under the initiative and instruction of late DPRK president Kim IlSung.     The opera has been renovated and re-staged as a major event in the Year of China-DPRK Friendship. DPRK top leader Kim Jong Il has taken a strong interest in its development and has watched a rehearsal.

BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's insurance capital investments hit 2.45 trillion yuan (358 billion U.S. dollars) in the first seven months of this year, according to the country's insurance regulator.     In July alone, the investments from insurance funds stood at 120.4 billion yuan, China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) said in a report on its website.     Of the total insurance investment value, about 332 billion yuan, or 9.8 percent, went to the stock markets by the end of the second quarter of this year.     During the same period, mutual funds investments suck 228.45 billion yuan, or 6.8 percent from the insurance capital.     A booming equities market and an optimistic attitude towards the country's stock markets had led to an increasing investments, said the CIRC.     Comparatively, in the first seven months, bank deposit of China's insurance capital decreased to 1.03 trillion yuan, 15.23 billion yuan less than in the first six months.     The CIRC's statistics also reflected a slowdown increasing rate in premium income in the first seven months. Premium income was 678.64 billion yuan, representing a small increase of 80 billion yuan than the June figure.

The price cut was in response to recent falls in global crude prices, which had dropped to 63.97 U.S. dollars per barrel from 67.8 U.S. dollars on June 30, according to the statement.     Global crude prices, despite recent rebounds, experienced consecutive falls in the first half of this month, said the statement.     The NDRC is basing its adjustment of domestic fuel prices on three kinds of global crude prices, but the commission did not reveal the structure of the three prices.     On Monday, light, sweet crude for September delivery rose 33 cents to settle at 68.38 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. London Brent for September delivery rose 50 cents to 70.82 dollars a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.     It is the sixth fuel price adjustment since the country adopted a new fuel pricing mechanism, which took effect on Jan. 1.     The Chinese government has lowered retail fuel prices in December, before the new mechanism became effective, and again in January. It also raised prices once in March and twice last month.     Under the pricing mechanism, the NDRC would consider changing benchmark retail prices of oil products when the international crude price rises or falls by a daily average of 4 percent over 20 days.     The two price rises last month were slight, said the statement, in an effort to quell doubts over frequent price hikes.     The country's latest fuel price hike on Jan. 30 sparked widespread debate as consumers grumbled that the record domestic prices were even higher than in the United States.     However, according to the NDRC statement, post-rise prices on June 30 translated into about 60 U.S. dollars per barrel, which was 7.8 U.S. dollars lower than the international price that day.     On June 1, post-rise prices were equal to about 50 U.S. dollars a barrel, 7.6 U.S. dollars lower than the global crude price.     The NDRC raised pump prices of gasoline and diesel by 400 yuan per ton, or 7 percent and 8 percent, respectively, from June 1, and again by 600 yuan per tonne, or 9 and 10 percent, respectively, from June 30.     Such controlled rises were meant to ease the burden of downstream industries so as to help fuel a recovery in the economy, and also to cushion the negative effect of irrational rises in global crude prices, such as raises in investment of speculative capital, according to the statement.     The commission would continue to adjust domestic fuel prices "at an appropriate time", and take into account of changes in global crude prices, domestic economic situation, and demand and supply on the domestic market, said the statement.

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- China is to hold a National Day military and mass parade as well as an evening gala on Tian'anmen Square Thursday to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).     Following will be highlights of the once-in-a-decade grand celebrations:     -- Chinese leaders, including President Hu Jintao, will be on Tian'anmen Rostrum to observe the parade.     -- President Hu is to review line-ups of the tri-service People's Liberation Army (PLA), standing in an open-top home-made Red Flag limousine.     -- National flag raising ceremony will be held on Tian'anmen Square.     -- Military parade is expected to involve more than 8,000 people, and a total of 52 types of new weapon systems, including the PLA's missiles, airborne early warning and control aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and other sophisticated military hardware, will be shown.     -- Military paraders will march goose-step through the square in new-style uniforms initiated in 2007.     -- Women militia soldiers in purple skirts will march goose-step through Tian'anmen Square, holding submachine guns. Police abruptly shut down the nearly 300-hectare market in northeastern Moscow on June 29 after disclosure by .Russian Federal Supervision Service for Consumer Rights Protection and People Welfare of various illegal and irregular operation in the markets Russian Prosecutor General's Office said the shutdown was due to bad sanitary and fire control conditions, but local media believe many factors have prompted the closure.     A June report tendered by Minister of Industry and Trade Victor Khristenko stated that contraband goods not only cost the government great loss in taxation, but also undermine the development of the country's light industry.     The report suggested promoting legal, standardized chainstores and cracking down on terminal markets notorious for the sales of counterfeited and shoddy products and goods entered the country through "grey customs clearance".     Russian Federal Supervision Service for Consumer Rights Protection and People Welfare, Prosecutor General's Office, Federal Migration Service , Moscow municipal government and other government agencies even proposed shutting down the market for good.     The latest poll conducted by research group Levada Center also showed that among 94 percent of Moscow citizens who know about the closure, 67 percent support the move. Another online poll conducted by newspaper Izvestia also showed that over 80 percent of netizens are in favor of the shutdown. 　　"GREY CUSTOMS CLEARANCE" HAMPERS SINO-RUSSIAN TRADE     Over the past 20 years, the people-to-people trade between China and Russia has undoubtedly made great contribution to bilateral economic and trade cooperation, said Gao Xiyun, Economic Minister Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Russia.     However, it is also an undeniable fact that problems such as "grey customs clearance" had seriously hampered the health development the bilateral people-to-people trade, he said.     The so-called "grey customs clearance" is a long-standing practice that involves intermediaries handling customs clearance for bulk commodities loaded in planes or containers trucks.     After paying the so-called "customs clearance companies," the consignors of the goods do not have to deal with Russian customs authorities in person. Consequently they receive no official customs declaration documents.     In recent years, the Russian government has strived to rectify its domestic market order. For a time, goods that entered the country through "grey customs clearance" were regarded as contraband, and their owners would face penalties, including fines or even outright confiscation.     Prior to the market closure, on Sep. 11, 2008, the Investigation Committee at the Russian Prosecutor General's Office sealed up a large part of Chinese merchants' container storehouse in the Cherkizovsky market. 　　CHINESE BUSINESSMEN NEED TO CHANGE MODES OF OPERATION     Some 60,000 Chinese are doing business in Cherkizovsky Market, making the market the biggest Chinese business community in Moscow and even the whole Russia, according to figures from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Russia.     The abrupt closure of the market, in addition to the closedown of the container storehouse, has caused great economic loss to Chinese merchants and their domestic enterprises.     Gennady Gudkov, Deputy Chairman of the Security Committee of the Russian State Duma said though the closure of the market is justified, the vendors there should be given advance notice of the closure.     Gao Hucheng said China has no objections to Russia's crackdown on smuggling, but the Russian side should protect the personal and property safety of the Chinese citizens without hurting their dignity. While enforcing the law, the Russian side should try its best to keep the economic losses of the Chinese business people to the minimum.     Some Chinese analysts noted that Russia's cracking down on smuggling and rectifying domestic markets would help regulate trade channels, improve trade environment, therefore conducive to sustained and sound development of bilateral trade in the long run.     Li Huilai, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, said the only way out for Chinese merchants is to transform their operation mode and do their business in accordance with law and regulations. 　　JOINT EFFORTS URGED TO EXPAND NORMAL TRADE CHANNELS     In recent years, China has strengthened export supervision and instructed Chinese enterprises and businessmen in Russia to operate honestly and abide by the laws and regulations there.     China and Russia share a common goal in creating a trade environment that is standardized, transparent and convenient.     In June, China and Russia established a customs cooperation committee and set up a long-term mechanism to normalize bilateral trade order in a bid to raise the level of customs clearance facilitation and create favorable conditions for the crackdown and eventual eradication of the "grey customs clearance."     Gao's delegation, comprising officials from the ministries of commerce and foreign affairs, the General Administration of Customs and trade officials from Zhejiang, Fujian and Hebei provinces reached three consensus with the Russian side on the closure issue.     The two sides agreed to further develop the Sino-Russian strategic cooperative partnership, deepen bilateral trade cooperation and properly settle the closure issue through friendly negotiations.     The governments of China and Russia attached great importance to their strategic cooperative partnership and had agreed that the sudden closure of the market should not hurt their friendly cooperation, Gao said.     The two sides should promptly initiate a customs cooperation mechanism, and develop a work plan to stop illegal activities including "grey customs clearance," regulate customs declaration channels and raise customs clearance efficiency.     Analysts believe that with the constant improvement and development of Sino-Russian trade and economic cooperation, the issue of "grey customs clearance" could be fully resolved.
