BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's new yuan-dominated loans in September was expected to reach 300-400 billion yuan (44-59 billion U.S. dollars), China Securities Journal reported on its website Tuesday.     The figure was less than that of August, which hit 410.4 billion yuan.     Liu Mingkang, Chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), provided the figure during an International Monetary Fund (IMF) conference held in Istanbul, Turkey on Monday.     New loans in the first eight months stood at 8.15 trillion yuan, far exceeding the full-year target of five trillion yuan, according to he People's Bank of China, the central bank, this September.     The CBRC reiterated in September that domestic lenders should seek to enhance their risk management and stick to regulatory requirements to reduce worries over financial risks caused by rapid credit growth this year.     China began to adopt a moderately easy monetary policy in last November in a bid to maintain economic development amid the financial crisis.

BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's economy would continue to recover from the world financial crisis in the latter half and expand at the rate of 8.5 percent for the whole year, said a report from the Bank of Communications on Sunday.     The country's economic development was expected to accelerate the pace and expand at 9 percent in the third quarter and 9.8 percent in the fourth quarter, according to the report.     The report indicated that the country would achieve the set goal of 8 percent economic growth for the full year，contributed by a robust domestic investment and consumption.     In the latter half, investment would represent fast increase, boosted by development from infrastructure construction, real estate, and the industrial sector, said the report.     China saw its economy growth slowed down amid the world financial crisis. Its gross domestic product grew 7.9 percent in the second quarter after sinking to 6.1 percent in the first three months.

RIGA, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met with Latvian President Valdis Zatlers and Parliament Speaker Gundars Daudze here on Tuesday.     In his meeting with Zatlers, Hui said the China-Latvia relations have been developing smoothly in recent years. The two sides have maintained high-level contacts and strengthened mutual political trust. There has also been remarkable progress in economic and trade cooperation and people-to-people contacts.     President Zatlers visited China last year and reached important consensus with Chinese President Hu Jintao on the development of bilateral relations, said Hui.     The current visit is aimed at implementing the consensus reached last year, deepening friendship and promoting cooperation, he said.     The two sides should work together in face of the current global financial crisis, and should also look even farther and further promote cooperation, he said. BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin has called for deep recognition of the historic necessity and enormous advantages of China's political system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).     The natural difference between the political systems of China and the West must be deeply recognized, said Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau at Thursday's meeting of the presidium of the CPPCC National Committee. BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will mainly redress production overcapacity in six sectors, said Chen Bin, director of the Department of Industry of the NDRC, Thursday.     The six sectors include steel, cement, plate glass, coal-chemical industry, polycrystalline silicon and windpower equipment.     The NDRC also warns of obvious production overcapacity in sectors like electrolytic aluminum, ship manufacturing and soybean oil extraction, said Chen during an on-line interview on www.gov.cn., the website of China's central government.     He said China would fight serious overcapacity in sectors like steel industry and offer guidance for new-born industries like windpower equipment to avoid low level repetitive construction.     China has achieved preliminary progresses in fighting the global economic downturn, but the foundation for economic recovery is not stable yet and overcapacity might lead to bankruptcy, unemployment and bad bank loans if it was not checked in time, he said.

BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said Friday that the role of the United Nations should be bolstered in handling the global economic downturn, achieving sustainable development, and safeguarding world peace and security. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and the largest developing nation, China has always observed the principles of the UN Charter, supported the UN's efforts to improve security, development and human rights and its reform to increase efficiency, Hu said to visiting UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon Hu.     "China will continue to join in the UN undertakings and carry out its duties with responsive and constructive attitude, and will work with the international community to build a harmonious world," Hu said.
