CAIRO, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Friday, starting a two-day official visit to Egypt preceding a top-level review of action to build China-Africa cooperation.     Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef received Wen at the airport.     During his visit, Wen is scheduled to meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and hold talks with Nazef. He will also meet with Arab League chief Amr Mussa, and deliver a speech at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.     This is Wen's second official visit to Egypt. The first was in 2006, which marked the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomaticties between China and Egypt. Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is greeted during a welcoming ceremony in Cairo, capital of Egypt, Nov. 6, 2009After his official visit to Egypt, Wen will attend the opening ceremony of the fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Sunday.     Wen will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders of FOCAC member countries at Sharm el-Sheikh.     The FOCAC meeting, an important gathering after the Beijing Summit of the forum in November 2006, will review how the consensus of the Beijing Summit has been implemented.     It is also expected to adopt a declaration and an action plan for 2010-2012 to chart the path for further China-Africa cooperation.     Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Commerce Minister Chen Deming, as well as other senior officials, are accompanying Wen.

ABU DHABI, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 40 world leading renewable energy companies from China have confirmed their participation in the upcoming World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi, organizers said Sunday.     The Chinese pavilion at the meeting, which is now in its third year and will be held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Jan. 18-21, has already grown to more than 1,000 square meters, ASDA'A Burson-Marsteller, a public relations consultancy, said in a press release.     Leading companies and organizations from all across China, including Suntech Power, Yingli Green Energy Holding and China Sunergy, are expected to participate in the summit, the press release said.     It noted that there is a particularly strong presence of companies from China's eastern province of Jiangsu, where solar power is a pillar of the local economy, saying approximately half of the Chinese firms participating are from the province.     According to the press release, Shi Zhengrong, Suntech's chairman and CEO, will take part in a discussion on International Policy and Climate Change Action Plans during the summit.     Suntech, a NYSE-listed company with a market capitalization of nearly 3 billion U.S. dollars, is the world's largest producer of crystalline silicon solar panels and has delivered solar energy products to more than 80 countries over the past eight years, it said.     The China Greentech Report, recently issued by the China Greentech Initiative, a partnership of more than 80 of the world's leading companies and organizations, projects that the Chinese government's investment in its "greentech" industry will drive private sector investment, which could create a national market worth up to 1 trillion dollars annually.     Such significant investment and government commitment have led to China playing a significant role in the exhibition at the WFES this year, the press release said.     The WFES, a global platform for sustainable future energy solutions launched in 2008, gathers industrial leaders, investors, scientists, specialists, policymakers and researchers to discuss challenges of rising energy demand and actions to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable future for the world.     Abu Dhabi, an emerging global hub for renewable energy, is the venue for the annual meeting, held along with the World Future Energy and Environment exhibitions.     In June last year, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) decided to base its headquarters in the UAE capital. 

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States on Tuesday voiced support for the peace and stability in South Asia.     "The two sides welcomed all efforts conducive to peace, stability and development in South Asia," said a joint statement issued after a meeting here between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     They support the efforts of Afghanistan and Pakistan to fight terrorism, maintain domestic stability and achieve sustainable economic and social development, said the statement.     They also pledged support for the improvement and growth of relations between India and Pakistan.     The two sides are ready to strengthen communication, dialogue and cooperation on issues related to South Asia and work together to promote peace, stability and development in that region, according to the statement.

ASTANA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on Saturday pledged to advance their countries' strategic partnership.     During a meeting with Nazarbayev, Hu put forward a five-point proposal for the development of bilateral relations between China and Kazakhstan. The Chinese president said the two sides should strengthen mutual support on major issues concerning each other's core interests so as to enhance mutual understanding and trust.     Hu said he has accepted an invitation by Nazarbayev to visit Kazakhstan next year, adding that he also invited Nazarbayev to visit China at a convenient time in the near future.     Secondly, Hu said the two countries should deepen their cooperation in the energy sector, and earnestly implement the operation and maintenance of the China-Kazakhstan natural gas pipeline.     The two countries should also strengthen cooperation in the mining sector, he said.     Thirdly, China and Kazakhstan should advance their cooperation in non-energy sectors so as to push forward practical bilateral ties in an all-round manner.     The Chinese president said the two countries should step up efforts to carry out their cooperation plans in non-energy sectors and in promoting the implementation of the first batch of their cooperation projects.     Hu also called for joint efforts from both sides in expanding the scale and improving the economic returns of their non-energy cooperation.     Fourthly, the two sides need to strengthen cooperation in the financial sector, especially in such areas as loans and financing, financial supervision, risk prevention and anti-money laundering.     He said the two sides should accelerate the implementation of agreements on the 10-billion-dollar loan China provided for Kazakhstan to create favorable conditions for their cooperation in energy, mining and non-energy sectors. He also announced a decision to increase from 100 to 200 the number of Kazakh students who study in China on Chinese government scholarships every year.     Nazarbayev agreed with Hu's five-point proposal and said the Kazak side was satisfied with the development of the good-neighborly friendship and strategic partnership enjoyed by the two countries.     Hu's visit took place on the eve of the 18th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence, which Nazarbayev said reflects the importance that China places on its relations with his country.     The two leaders watched the completion of a natural gas pipeline in Kazakhstan earlier Saturday. The pipeline is part of the China-Central Asia gas pipeline that links Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.     Noting that bilateral relations have ushered in a new stage of energy cooperation, Nazarbayev said his country was willing to strengthen pragmatic cooperation with China in the fields of trade, finance, infrastructure, energy and non-energy.     He also agreed with China's handling of the July 5 incident in Urumuqi in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and reiterated his support for China's efforts to strike against the "three evil forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism     China's efforts were necessary to maintain stability in Xinjiang, and were good for stability in Kazakhstan, he said.     The president also thanked the Chinese government for increasing the number of Kazak students studying in China and said his country was ready to work with Beijing to smoothly run the two Confucius Institutes in Kazakhstan.     China and Kazakhstan have witnessed sustained, rapid and healthy progress of bilateral ties since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992.     Kazakhstan has become China's largest trading partner in Central Asia. Despite the global financial crisis, two-way trade reached 17.55 billion U.S. dollars in 2008, exceeding the 15-billion-dollar target set by the two countries' governments.     China and Kazakhstan have also made concerted efforts in fighting against the "three evil forces", cracking down on drug trafficking and other cross-border crimes.     Hu arrived in Astana earlier Saturday for a two-day visit to Kazakhstan at the invitation of Nazarbayev.     Kazakhstan is the first leg of Hu's two-nation Central Asia trip. He is expected to leave Kazakhstan on Sunday for Turkmenistan.

BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The output value of China's energy saving and environmental protection industry would hit 2.8 trillion yuan (412 billion U.S. dollars) by 2012, said Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission on Sunday.     Those sectors have become a new economic growth point and have bright prospects in China, Xie said at the fourth China-Japan Energy-saving and Environment Protection Forum which began Sunday.     He said the government will beef up investment in the construction of resource recycling projects, which will directly boost the industry development.     He noted the government will further reform the pricing system of the resource products.     Enterprises should also enhance innovation to break technological bottleneck notably in the development of clean coal transfer technology and pollutants treatment facilities.     China has been pushing for a national energy saving campaign to address the worsening conflicts between economic growth and environmental deterioration.

BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Wang Qishan on Monday hoped China and Germany would increase mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields to promote bilateral relations.     "China and Germany are highly complementary in economy and share great potential for cooperation," Wang told visiting German Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Rainer Bruederle.     Hailing the China-Germany 37-year diplomatic relations, Wang said the two nations had witnessed frequent high-level exchanges and increased cooperation in economy, trade, investment, science, technology, culture and other fields.     China was in a period which witnessed accelerated industrialization and urbanization, Wang said. "We will unswervingly follow the principle of putting people first and the scientific concept on development to seek sustainable development."     Bruederle said Germany would work with China to expand bilateral cooperation, in a bid to promote healthy and stable development of trade and economic relations between the two nations.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua)-- The United States welcomes the peaceful development of cross-Straits ties and "more positive and stable" cross-Straits relations, said a China-US Joint Statement issued here Tuesday.     The statement said that both sides underscored the importance of the Taiwan issue in China-US relations.     The Chinese side emphasized that the Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed the hope that the US side will honor its relevant commitments and appreciate and support the Chinese side's position on this issue.     The US side stated that the United States follows its one-China policy and abides by the principles of the three Sino-US joint communiques, said the statement.     The two sides reiterated that "the fundamental principle of respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity is at the core of the three Sino-US joint communiques which guide China-US relations. Neither side supports any attempts by any force to undermine this principle," said the statement.     The two sides agreed that respecting each other's core interests is extremely important to ensure steady progress in China-US relations.     Both countries believe that to nurture and deepen bilateral strategic trust is essential to China-US relations in the new era.     The US side reiterated that it welcomes a strong, prosperous and successful China that plays a greater role in world affairs.     The two sides are of the view that in the 21st century, global challenges are growing, countries are more interdependent, and theneed for peace, development and cooperation is increasing. JOHANNESBURG, Dec. 24, (Xinhua) -- Legal ties between China and Africa have taken a major step forward with the conclusion of the First Forum on China-Africa Legal Co-operation in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.     Under the theme "Strengthen China-Africa Legal Exchange and Promote All Round Development of China-Africa Relationship", this forum was the first time lawyers from the China and Africa had met in such circumstances.     Greg Nott, who led the South African delegation, said on his return to Johannesburg on Thursday that he was "terribly excited by this forum and look forward to the implementation of a number of proposals tabled."     These included an exchange and cooperation between Chinese and African legal circles and a legal "think tank" to promote a universal and sustainable development of the China-Africa relationship.     Nott, who is the legal representative of the China-Africa Development Fund as well other China investor clients, said there were a number of other "ambitious and exciting proposals".     These include "the establishment of training and consulting centres as well as training projects for young African lawyers. This goes all hand-in-hand with private sector lawyers driving intellectual and legal support for business activity on both continents."     The forum was convened as the first step towards pragmatic cooperation between Chinese and African legal circles.     It was attended by delegates from Botswana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, as well as a strong delegation from the China Law Society.     The agenda included the important role of law in China-Africa cooperation, an introduction to the legal systems of China and African countries and their impact on trade and investment relations.     A number of prominent Egyptian and Chinese lawyers presided over the panels. The lawyers have much work to do because while China has one legal system, the 53 nations which make up Africa each have their own systems. Most are based on either the British legal system, with elements of Roman/Dutch law, or the French legal system.     There is also a strong legacy of Portuguese influence in former colonies. China's civil law system is based on traditional customs and practices, with Soviet and German influence.     Held on Dec. 20 and 21, the forum was hosted at the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration.     The South African delegation included Rajen Ranchhoojee and Sheng Wu of the Johannesburg legal firm Dewey & LeBoeuf, where Nott is the managing partner.     The legal forum followed shortly after the meeting of foreign ministers at the fourth Forum on Africa China Cooperation, which was held in for Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt from Nov. 8 to 9.     At that meeting South African International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana Mashabane said China had played an important role in Africa's renewal. "For instance it has had significant role in peacekeeping in Africa."     She said a major strength of Chinese aid was its orientation to recipient priorities such as infrastructure (telecommunications, energy, roads) and productive sector investments (agriculture).     "Furthermore, Chinese assistance is considered to be relatively predictable assistance because it is disbursed on schedule within the intended financial year."     At that point she said development cooperation between South Africa and China is was regulated by two Agreements, "namely an agreement on Human Resource Development that was signed in 2004 and a February 2007 Agreement on Technical and Economic Cooperation".
