BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- China Tuesday called for new initiatives to boost the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership.     The call was made during a meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and former French President Jacques Chirac, who is in Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. ROME, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano on Monday, calling for a boost to ties between the two countries.     During the talks, Hu said Chinese-Italian relations have witnessed healthy and stable expansion over the past 39 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations. In 2004, the two countries agreed to establish an all-around strategic partnership, unveiling a new page for Chinese-Italian friendly cooperation, Hu said.     As next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the forging of bilateral diplomatic relations, China is willing to join hands with Italy to lift bilateral ties to a higher level, Hu said. He noted that China's participation is a must for the international community in its move to tackle the crisis, reform the international financial system and realize sustainable development.     On the EU-China relations, Napolitano said Italy would continue to play an active role in boosting the ties.     The president also reiterated Italy's adherence to the one-China policy.     According to the press release, Hu also briefed his Italian counterpart on the latest social and economic developments in China.     The two leaders held the talks at the Quirinal Palace, and Napolitano hosted a grand welcoming ceremony in honor of Hu prior to the talks.     Hu arrived in Rome earlier on Sunday for a state visit at the invitation of Napolitano.     Hu was also to attend the summit of the Group of Eight and major developing countries later this week in the central Italian city of L'Aquila.     This is the sixth time that the Chinese president has attended the G8 outreach session. The previous one took place in the northern Japanese resort of Toyako last July.     The G8, an informal forum of leading industrialized nations, includes Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Japan, the United States, Canada and Russia. 

CHENGDU, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu called on Thursday Asian and European countries to improve their disaster prevention and relief abilities through cooperation and sharing of information.     Hui made the remark at an Asia-Europe workshop on cooperation and capacity building in disaster prevention and relief, held in Chengdu, capital of southwest Sichuan Province.     Hui said natural disasters are common challenges facing the whole mankind, and cooperation between Asian and European countries in disaster relief not only has an important bearing on the economic development and livelihood of the people, but also on the sustainable development of the mankind.     "Asian and European countries should further enhance exchange and cooperation in monitoring and forecast of disasters, as well as emergency response and relief efforts," said Hui, who also suggested building of a cooperation mechanism and information sharing, that would serve the improvement of disaster prevention and relief abilities of all countries.     China had frequent natural disasters and would share its experience in coping with disasters with other countries, Hui said. He said China would continue to provide support and aid within its ability to the capacity building in disaster relief for other developing countries.     On the country's disaster prevention and relief capacity building, Hui said, China would further improve its monitoring of natural disasters and emergency rescue system, raise anti-disaster standards for buildings and increase public awareness of disasters and push for international cooperation in disaster relief.     The vice premier expressed China's appreciation for international help and support to the country's disaster relief and quake relief after the 8.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Wenchuan of Sichuan on May 12, 2008.

NAIROBI, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Kenya and China vowed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on Monday during a meeting between senior officials of the two friendly countries.     Wang Jiarui, visiting minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s Central Committee, said the Chinese ruling party would engage Kenya's political parties --the Orange Democratic Party-Kenya, the Party of National Unity and the Orange Democratic Party in support of the stability of the Kenyan Grand Coalition Government.     Wang said his country valued the eastern African nation as an important partner in the continent.     "Our bilateral relation is very cordial as this has been demonstrated by sincere trust and mutual cooperation between the two countries. We also expect to explore inter-party cooperation to enable the two countries exchange views and address issues of mutual interest," Wang said in talks with Kenyan Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.     He said the Sino-Kenyan friendship dates back to ancient times and that the past four decades of bilateral diplomatic ties have witnessed great development of friendship and successful cooperation in such fields as politics, infrastructure and trade, as well as mutual support in international affairs.     "We will work with the three parties that form the ruling coalition government. We know that these three parties are key to the stability of this country. China has also oil exploration companies and with all these, we hope to expand other areas of cooperation and reach mutual understanding to enable both sides to benefit," he said.     Musyoka told Wang the east African nation appreciates the huge investment China has put into Kenya's infrastructure.     He expressed hope that more Chinese tourists will visit Kenya as part of efforts to balance trade, while urging China to launch direct flights to Nairobi to help spur economic growth and boost the country's tourism.     Musyoka pledged that the Kenyan coalition government attaches much importance to bilateral relations with China and will further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields.
