BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam is ready to make joint efforts with China to advance the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership, a senior Vietnamese official said here Monday. Pham Quang Nghi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC), made the remarks during his talks with Liu Qi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).     Liu said the two parties had increased exchanges on theory and practice of socialist construction since the two top leaders reached an important consensus on the development of Sino-Vietnamese relations last year. BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- House prices in 70 major Chinese cities fell 1.3 percent in March from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said Monday.     The month-on-month figure, however, rose 0.2 percent in March.     In the first quarter, the area of commercial houses sold rose 8.2 percent to 113 million square meters and sales jumped 23.1 percent to 505.9 billion yuan (74 billion U.S. dollars), the NBS said.     Prices of new houses fell 1.9 percent year-on-year last month but rose 0.1 percent from February. Prices for second-hand houses rose 0.3 percent month-on-month despite of a decline of 0.4 percent from a year earlier.     Analysts warned it was still too early to say the property market had revived, as sales were mainly driven by surging credit and by stimulus policies, such as tax cuts. Other indicators, such as land purchases by developers, had shown no signs of recovery.     Floor areas of newly built houses in the first quarter tumbled 16.2 percent to 201 million sq m. The decline was 1.4 percentage points more than the January-February figure.     Land purchased for homebuilding fell more than 40 percent in the first quarter to 47.42 million sq m, and the actual area developed shrank 11.3 percent to 52.2 million sq m.     China Vanke, the country's biggest property developer by market value, reported on April 11 its first-quarter sales rose 21 percent to 12.22 billion yuan. Those of Poly Real Estate Group, the second-biggest, doubled to 6.48 billion yuan.

BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao said here Tuesday China must deepen reforms and further open up as the country tackles economic woes.     The policy of reform and opening up is the key choice that determines the future of China in the contemporary era and the country's powerful weapon in fighting the global financial crisis, said Wen when joining a panel discussion with lawmakers from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.     "The more difficulties we face, the more firmly we should stick to reforms and opening up," Wen told the lawmakers who are attending the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislative body. DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in the Tanzanian capital of Dar es Salaam Saturday night for a state visit to the eastern African nation.     Hu was greeted by Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and a local performance at the airport.     In a statement released upon arrival, Hu said the bilateral relationship has been developing in a sound and smooth way since 45 years ago when the diplomatic ties were established.     "It can be viewed as an exemplary relationship of sincerity, solidarity and cooperation between China and an African country and between two developing countries," Hu said.     The president said his visit is aimed at enhancing mutual trust, expanding cooperation, planning for the future and lifting the friendly and cooperative relations to a new high.     Hu said he is expecting an in-depth exchange of views with President Kikwete and other Tanzanian leaders on the bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest.     During his stay here, Hu will also meet with Zanzibar President Amani Abeid Karume, attend the completion ceremony of Tanzania's state stadium, visit a cemetery for Chinese experts, and deliver a key-note speech at a welcoming meeting on Monday. BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday again lodged urgent representations to the Russian Minister Counsellor to China in regards to the sinking of a Chinese cargo ship in Russian waters.     The Sierra Leone-flagged vessel named "New Star" sank off the waters near Russia's far-eastern port of Vladivostok on Sunday. Seven Chinese crew members were still missing.     China paid great attention to media reports that the ship sank after a Russian Coast Guard cruiser fired at it, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu in a news release.     Jiang said China had urged the Russian side to spare no efforts to help search for the missing crew members and make thorough investigations to find out the causes of the incident as soon as possible.     The Chinese embassy in Russia and consulate general in Khabarovsk also made representations to Russia at the same time, Jiang noted.     "Russia attached great importance to China's concern," said Jiang, adding that relevant Russian department is investigating the conduct of law enforcement agencies involved in the incident and will inform China of the results in time.

Advisor Huang Xinyang, president of the Beijing Taoism Association, said that the speech reflects the heartfelt wishes of advisors from the religious circle, who support the ideal of social harmony and national unity.     "A handful of separatists who advocate 'Tibet independence' do not represent the people of the religious circle and they are doomed to failure," said Huang.     Advisor Ma Guoquan from northwest Ningxia Hui Autonomous Regionsaid: "The religious policy we have now is the most appropriate. Believers have the full freedom to engage in religious activities. There is no reason for making trouble."
