BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- China said Thursday it would consider more assistance to quake-hit Haiti and hoped the United Nations could coordinate the post-quake reconstruction."We will continue to make every effort to participate in disaster relief and reconstruction," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu at a regular news briefing.After a 7.3-magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti on Jan.12, China sent a 60-strong search and rescue team to Port-Au-Prince, capital of the Caribbean nation, and the Red Cross Society of China donated 1 million U.S. dollars in emergency aid.China also decided to send emergency humanitarian aid worth 30 million yuan (4.41 million U.S. dollars) to Haiti.Ma said the reconstruction would be arduous and the United Nations should give full play to its advantage by guiding and coordinating aid efforts from all sides."China supports the United Nations playing its due role in time to ensure an early launch of reconstruction," said Ma.Ma said whether China would send peace-keeping troops to Haiti would rest on UN arrangements.The UN Security Council endorsed Tuesday a proposal to send 3,500 more peacekeepers to Haiti to support "the immediate recovery, reconstruction and stability efforts."Eight Chinese peacekeeping police officers were killed in the quake. KAMPALA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Monday met officials of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) amidst increased lobbying by international oil giants to enter the country's oil sector.A State House statement issued here said that the CNOOC officials who met Museveni at State House Entebbe, 40km south of the capital Kampala, expressed interest in joining Uganda's oil and gas sector by partnering up with Tullow, an Irish oil company.Tullow, which has oil blocks in western Uganda, is seeking a partner to help it start oil production in the country.The CNOOC meeting comes weeks after Italian oil giant, Eni Spa, also expressed interest in joining the country's oil sector, promising an oil refinery and a power plant.Eni wants to enter the sector by buying stakes of another oil company Heritage Oil which jointly operates two blocks with Tullow on a 50-50 percent venture.The Eni-Heritage deal which is yet to be concluded is embroiled in controversy as Tullow exercised a pre-emption move saying it has the first option to buy the Heritage stakes, a move the government said it would not accept because it would create a monopoly.Museveni told the CNOOC officials joined by Tullow officials that the government will discuss all proposals and announce its decision soon."President Museveni said that the government will discuss all proposals by companies operating in the oil and gas sector adding that the country looks forward to welcoming new companies," the statement said.The Museveni-CNOOC-Tullow meet also comes days after Aiden Heavey, Tullow's chief executive met Museveni urging Uganda to honor contractual obligations following the Eni-Heritage deal.Uganda's recently discovered oil is attracting a lot of attention from international oil giants.So far the country has discovered an estimated two billion barrels of oil and according to experts there is a possibility of discovering more.

BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday released an inclusive list of illustrations on medicine use as guidance for doctors in writing prescriptions. It is the first state-level list of its kind in the country.The list illustrates what each kind of medicine should be used for, but it is not mandatory. Medicines on the list include all those on the National Basic Medicine Catalogue and the Catalogue of Drugs for Basic National Medical Insurance, and some other frequently used medicine, the ministry said.Cao Guirong, president of the Chinese Hospital Association, said at the release ceremony that compilation of the list borrowed the experience of developed countries and the World Health Organization (WHO) while taking into account China's geographic features and clinical therapeutic habits.It took two years for more than 100 domestic medical and pharmaceutical experts to complete the list, Cao said. It would be handed out to hospitals nationwide within the next few days in an effort to promote better medical service.
