BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has called for greater awareness of both hardships and opportunities presented by the global financial crisis in order to offset the impacts of the crisis.     In a speech to the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau on Tuesday, Hu said China must be prepared for the most difficult and complicated situations in the world economy and meanwhile make good use of or create development opportunities amid the transformation of international and domestic conditions.     The world economic situation was austere and complicated; the global financial crisis had yet to level out; and China's economic growth was under pressure of a slow-down, he said.     He said no fundamental changes had occurred in the country's basic economic development situation, its advantageous conditions for economic development, its accelerating trend of industrialization and urbanization, and the external environment of peace, development and cooperation.     "The strong Party leadership, the advantages of the socialist system, and the united efforts of our people of all ethnic groups are the strength for us to overcome the difficulties and withstand the impacts of the global financial crisis," he said.     The government should maintain the policy of giving top priority to increasing domestic demand while stabilizing external demand, he said.     He called for more powerful and efficient measures to increase domestic demand, consumer demand in particular.     He urged continuing to make the reform and opening-up a powerful driving force for economic growth, actively pushing forward reform in key areas and links.     Hu urged all Party committees and governments to deepen the implementation of the "scientific view of development" and "carry out the decisions and arrangements of the central authorities in a creative way".     Hu, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over Tuesday's panel study of the Politburo, at which two scholars explained world economic situation and ways to boost economic growth.     The lecturers were Zhao Jinping, of the State Council's Development Research Center, and Bi Jiyao, of the Macro-economic Research Institute under the National Development and Reform and Commission.

BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- China's industry and commerce authorities said Friday that the number of businesses established in China rose only 0.78 percent year-on-year in 2008, much slower than an average of 5 percent growth in recent 5 years.     As of the end of 2008, the number of businesses totaled 9.71 million, up 0.78 percent, or 74,900, over the same period in 2007,the State Administration For Industry and Commerce (SAIC) said.     Private sectors and foreign-funded companies remained stable growth despite the global financial crisis. By the end of 2008, the number of private businesses stood at 6.57 million, up 9 percent, or 543,700.     The number of foreign-funded companies rose 7 percent to 434,900 last year, with total investment exceeding 2.32 trillion U.S. dollars, up 10.21 percent year-on-year.     The total registered capital of all businesses rose 12.42 percent to 43.48 trillion yuan (6.35 trillion U.S. dollars), the SAIC said.     The statistics also showed that more companies had been established in the western and central areas as the country tried to transit more industries to the regions, while the number of companies fell in more-developed eastern region due to the financial crisis.

VALLETTA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping concluded his six-nation tour here Sunday and left for home. Xi arrived in Valletta on Saturday for a two-day official visit to Malta. BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- China has approved 43 corporate bonds in the first quarter, a sharp rise from the same period last year, in support of the massive construction plan involved in the 4 trillion yuan (584.8 billion U.S. dollars) stimulus package, according to the data released by the depository house for China's major bonds.     The 43 corporate bonds, of which five were issued by the central State-owned enterprises, totaled 66.73 billion yuan in value, according to the China Government Securities Depository Trust and Clearing Co., Ltd.     In contrast, only 11 such bonds were approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the approving agency, in the first half of last year.     Experts said more such bonds were allowed in a bid to echo the government's 4 trillion yuan stimulus package, which needed huge sums of money to power the massive infrastructure construction andother new projects.     Of the total 4 trillion yuan investment, 1.18 trillion yuan is supplied by the central government. Money raised by the bond issuance should not be used to make risky investment including shares, futures and real estate, the official stressed.     Companies involved in the construction of infrastructure, sewage treatment, and energy saving would be given priority to issue debt, according to the official.     Based on the current momentum, the total corporate bond sales would likely to top 300 billion yuan this year, analyst with the China Securities Co., Ltd told the newspaper.     Although the bond sales was less than 70 billion yuan in the first quarter, but local governments and non-listed companies have shown great willingness to lend more. The bond sales is expected to peak in the latter of the year, said the analyst.     Chinese government has been cautious on corporate debt issuance as the country lacks comprehensive legal system for bond market.     Only 236.7 billion yuan of corporate bond were issued last year, compared with 812.5 billion yuan of treasury bond sales.
