BRUSSELS, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China will work with Belgium to improve political trust and substantial cooperation to make new progress in bilateral ties, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said here Wednesday.     During talks with Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy, Xi put forward a four-point proposal to cement bilateral ties:     -- To maintain high-level contacts and political dialogues. GENEVA, July 20 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday formally requested the World Trade Organization (WTO) to set up an expert panel to investigate and rule whether a U.S. ban on Chinese poultry imports violates WTO regulations.     The request was made at a meeting of the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body, but it was rejected by the United States according to relevant procedures.     During the meeting, the Chinese delegation reiterated that the U.S. measure is "discriminatory" and "has damaged the lawful rights and interests of China's poultry industry."     "While violating various WTO rules, the measure has severely undermined the stable development of Sino-U.S. trade in poultry products," the Chinese delegation said.     At the heart of the dispute is the U.S. Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009, which contains a section prohibiting any funds being used to facilitate imports of poultry products from China. The act was signed into U.S. law in March, and China filed complaints to the WTO in on April 17.     While Monday's request for the WTO panel was rejected by the United States, China could make a second request at the end of this month. After the second request, the WTO panel will be established automatically.     It usually takes more than half a year for a WTO panel to give its final ruling on a trade dispute.     China and the United States banned imports of each other's poultry products in 2004 following outbreaks of bird flu. They agreed to lift the bans at the Sino-U.S. Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade in 2004.     China did lift the ban but has complained that the United States was not following suit.     China imported 580,000 tons of chicken products from the United States last year, accounting for about 75 percent of total chicken imports.

BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- China Vanke, the country's largest property developer by market value, announced Monday evening that it had made a net profit of 2.52 billion yuan (368.9 million U.S. dollars) in the first half of the year, up 22.5 percent year on year.     Company revenue in the first half was 21.81 billion yuan, up 26.4 percent year on year, the developer said in its half-year report to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.     The company sold 3.488 million square meters of housing nationwide in the six months, up 31.2 percent over the same period last year in terms of total sales space.     The Shenzhen-based firm attributed the sales and profit rise to the upbeat Chinese property market performance in the first half, boosted by an array of government measures to bolster the economy and stimulate domestic consumption.     The Shenzhen-listed developer had edged down 0.9 percent to 13.24 yuan a share Monday before the release of the report.

HAIKOU, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers have recovered the bodies of three victims in a boat capsizing incident after tropical storm Parma landed in south China's Hainan Province Monday.     Strong winds and waves triggered by Parma caused a fishing boat to capsize and sink off the coast of Wanning City Monday morning, and all nine fishermen aboard the vessel fell into water, a spokesman with the Hainan Provincial Emergency Response Office said.     By 5 p.m., one body had been retrieved and five people had been rescued. BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's securities authority Thursday began reviewing applications of the the first seven IPOs for listing on the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM), a Nasdaq-style market in China.     The seven enterprises covered fields of software, medical equipment and medicines. They planned to raise 2.27 billion yuan (332.65 million U.S. dollars).     The review meeting was for the first time opened to journalists, who were allowed to watch the meeting for about ten minutes.     The second batch of IPOs will be reviewed Friday and they plan to raise 1.13 billion yuan (165.30 million U.S. dollars), according to a report on the website of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).     IPO review meetings would be concentrated on these days, a CSRC official, who declined to be named, told Xinhua Monday.     "IPO applications sent to the regulator were concentrated. The regulator had to take into consideration forming a block and guard against speculation that might push up IPO stocks prices," the official said.     The CSRC started to accept applications of the GEM on July 26 and had received 155 applications for IPOs on the GEM as of Sept. 10. The CSRC has formally agreed to handle 149 enterprises' applications that aim to raise 33.61 billion yuan (4.92 billion U.S. dollars).
