BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Li Changchun has pledged to strengthen cooperation between Chinese and foreign media and to facilitate foreign media coverage of China. Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks Friday evening when he met the heads of 10 major media organizations attending the World Media Summit in Beijing.     The Chinese government has been promoting media development and supporting Chinese media in enhancing exchanges and cooperation with foreign counterparts in news, human resources, information technologies and business development, he said. About 300 representatives from more than 170 media outlets from around the globe gathered to discuss how to develop the industry amid challenges from the economic crisis and new technologies.

BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is to be held from Sept. 15 to 18 this year, according to a statement issued Tuesday after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.     The decision was made at Tuesday's meeting, presided over by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.     Participants at Tuesday's meeting discussed a draft document on improving Party building which is to be submitted to the four-day plenary session for deliberation.     The CPC has to improve the Party building to cope with "major development, reform and adjustment in the world" and to better lead all ethnic groups to concentrate on construction and development, the statement said.     To sum up the Party's invaluable experience of strengthening self-building since the founding of the People's Republic of China 60 years ago, and enhance the Party building in the new situation, the CPC should stick to the following principles detailed in the statement:     -- The CPC should be strict with the Party members by conducting strict education, administration, monitoring and self-criticism.     The Party should also make redoubled efforts to improve the Party's work style, build a clean government and fight corruption to maintain its advanced and immaculate nature.     -- The CPC should focus on theological and ideological construction to enable the Party's theory and practice to keep pace with the time and be creative.     -- More efforts will be made to enhance the CPC's creativity, cohesiveness and fighting capacity to guarantee the Party to do a better job in governing and rejuvenating the country, and building socialism with Chinese characteristics.     -- The CPC should stick to scientific and democratic rule and rule by law to make it always a representative of the development requirements of China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.     -- The CPC should meet the essential requirements of building the Party to serve the public interests and running the government for the benefit of the people.     -- The CPC should improve itself in an innovative way.

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Hu Jintao on Thursday morning reviewed Chinese troops in central Beijing as the country celebrated the 60th National Day.     Standing in a black open-roof limousine on Chang'an Avenue, Hu was greeted by Fang Fenghui, commander-in-chief of the full-dress military parade. Fang reported: "Comrade chairman, assembly of the reviewing troops is completed, please review!"     Amid army songs played by a 1,300-member brass band, the home-made Red Flag limo drove eastward along Chang'an avenue, where Hu inspected 44 ground square formations composed of the three services of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), armed police, army reserves, and militia.     His car was followed by the limo of Fang Fenghui and an alternate one.     Wearing a high-collared Mao suit, Hu repeated salutes through a microphone: "Greetings, comrades!" and "Comrades, you are working hard!" URUMQI, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region would accelerate local legislation against separatism, said the region's top lawmaker on Sunday.     Eligen Imibakhi, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Xinjiang Regional People's Congress, said the regional congress would unswervingly safeguard the dignity and authority of the Constitution and other laws .     The July 5 incident involving beating, smashing, looting and burning, was a severe violent crime colluded, planned and organized by "three forces" of extremism, separatism and terrorism both at home and abroad, said the regional top legislator.     A most urgent problem to be solved was the lack of law booklets in ethnic minority languages, he said. The region had organized experts to do the translation work and the booklets would soon be distributed to farmers and herdsmen across the region, he added.
