BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Justices in China's Supreme People's Court, as well as judges in local courts, will start working side by side with anti-corruption supervisors from Monday.     On Friday, 14 full time supervisors were installed in the Supreme People's Court (SPC) to oversee judges, court-order enforcers and other court staff.     The SPC said in a statement Sunday that 24,521 anti-corruption supervisors had been in place in 2,392 courts across the country.     In local courts, the posts of anti-corruption supervisors were concurrently held by senior judges, it said.     The system was born out of the efforts "to better combat corruption and redress injustices in a timely manner," said Shen Deyong, SPC executive vice-president.     The Supreme People's court had issued a tentative measure to facilitate coordination between the internal check system and external supervision departments, said the statement.     It also said courts across China would work to optimize the system with measures such as appointing more supervisors and setting up regular exchange and appraisal systems for anti-corruption supervisors.

BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang here Tuesday urged medical workers to improve their professional ethics and skills to contribute to the country's medical reform.     "All medical staff should strengthen their professional ethics, pay attention to humane solicitude, improve professional techniques, strengthen service skills and strive to serve the people well," said Li during a ceremony awarding outstanding organizations, individuals and rural doctors in the medical field. BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- China would not yield to pressure for the appreciation of its currency yuan, or renminbi, in any form, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Sunday.     "A stable Chinese currency is conducive to the international community," Wen told Xinhua in an exclusive interview.

WELLINGTON, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key agreed during a meeting Monday to actively explore new ways to advance cooperation between the two countries. Li said during the meeting that in recent years, China and New Zealand have expanded cooperation in many areas such as politics, economy and culture.     He said they also have kept good communications and coordination on major global and regional issues. The smooth implementation of the China-New Zealand free trade agreement has helped bilateral trade surge, Li said. He said the smooth implementation of the bilateral free trade agreement has benefited New Zealand a lot.     The prime minister said he looked forward to visiting China and attending the Shanghai Expo next year. New Zealand has spent five times as much on the Shanghai Expo as on the last Aichi Expo, an evidence of New Zealand's high regard and expectations for relations with China, he said.     The New Zealand government respects China's positions on issues concerning its core interests such as Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang, and sticks to the one-China policy, Key said.     Li arrived in New Zealand on Sunday after concluding an official visit to Australia. His three-nation tour will also take him to Papua New Guinea.

BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Senior officials of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) pledged here Tuesday to improve relations between the two states and parties. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao is to meet his U.S. counterpart President Barack Obama Tuesday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.     The summit meeting is scheduled to be held at 10:40 a.m. after a grand welcoming ceremony. The two leaders will meet the press after the talks.     Wu Bangguo, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, will meet President Obama Tuesday afternoon.     President Obama will also visit the Palace Museum, or the Forbidden City, and attend a state banquet in his honor hosted by President Hu.

ROME, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Monday proposed a four-point action plan aimed at eradicating world hunger in his address to a world summit on food security.     Stressing the fact that the financial crisis has worsened the plight of the poor and the hungry, the Chinese vice premier said the summit, hosted at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters here, was "of special significance to world food security, global economic recovery and sustainable development."     In order to overcome the "dual pressure of an international financial crisis and a global food crisis," the first suggestion of the Chinese government was to increase input and raise food production by investing more in agriculture, build up the capability to resist natural disasters and strive for greater self-sufficiency. During the three-day event more than 60 heads of state and government will gather to discuss measures to eradicate hunger and ensure food security.
