BEIJING, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday raised a four-point proposal to boost collaboration with Malaysia so as to jointly tackle the global financial crisis.     China and Malaysia should insist on the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence, take each other's concern into consideration and achieve common development, Wen said to visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak during their meeting at the Great Hall of the People.     Wen raised a four-point proposal for further cooperation between the two countries, which included promoting trade diversification, enhancing mutual investment, deepening financial cooperation and safeguarding financial stability, and strengthening coordination on regional affairs. Trade between the two countries reached 39.06 billion U.S. dollars in 2008, up 10.3 percent year on year.     This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. Wen said that China is ready to work with Malaysia to take this opportunity to promote their relations.     Malaysia was the first ASEAN member country to forge diplomatic relations with China 35 years ago under then Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak, Najib's late father.     Najib said it is his honor of choose China as the first non-ASEAN destination since he took office in April. "This shows that Malaysia attaches great importance to the development of Malaysia-China relations."     Najib noted that his visit is aimed at further accelerating the development of the bilateral ties and strengthening cooperation.     Najib said he agree with Wen's proposal on advancing Malaysia-China relations, saying Malaysia, on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit, is ready to enhance cooperation with China in the fields of economy, finance, resources, energy and infrastructure construction.     After the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of bilateral agreements on cooperation.     Najib received a special gift from the Chinese side: a photo of his late father and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai when the two established diplomatic ties between China and Malaysia in 1974.     Najib received an honorary doctorate in international relations from the Beijing Foreign Studies University at the opening ceremony of an international seminar on the dialogue between Chinese and Malaysian civilizations here Wednesday.

YEKATERINBURG, Russia, June 15 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao on Monday expressed China's readiness to work with Uzbekistan to push forward their relations of friendship, cooperation and partnership.     At a meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov here, the Chinese president said relations between China and Uzbekistan have witnessed healthy and stable growth since the two countries established friendly and partnership relations in 2005.     The two countries have maintained frequent high-level exchanges, deepened their political mutual trust and expanded cooperation in such fields as trade, economy, energy, security and culture, he said. Chinese President Hu Jintao (R) meets with Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov in Yekaterinburg, Russia, June 15, 2009.    They have supported each other on major issues of respective concerns, conducted robust cooperation in the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other multilateral organizations, and contributed to promoting peace and stability in the region and the world at large, Hu said.     He said China highly values its relations with Uzbekistan and stands ready to implement the existing agreements and consensus between the two countries so as to strengthen their relations of friendship, cooperation and partnership.     Hu proposed that the two countries give full play to the intergovernmental economic and trade cooperation committee, boost cooperation in trade, economy, transport, energy, telecommunications, light industry and agriculture, and maintain the momentum for the growth of two-way trade to promote social and economic development of both countries.     Hu said the global financial crisis is still spreading, posing grave difficulties and challenges for China's economic development.     In order to tackle the crisis and maintain steady and relatively fast growth of the economy, China has timely adjusted its macroeconomic policies and adopted a package of measures to further expand domestic demand and boost economic growth, Hu said.     These measures are being implemented and have started to take effect, he said.     China is confident of overcoming the difficulties, achieving the steady and relatively rapid growth of its economy and contributing to the recovery and healthy, stable development of the global economy, Hu said.     China stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Uzbekistan in the financial sector, jointly guard against global financial risks and promote the healthy and stable economic and financial development of both countries, he said.     Karimov, for his part, said Uzbekistan appreciates its relationship with China, which features friendship, mutual trust and cooperation.     Uzbekistan appreciates China's continued supply of aid over a long period of time, especially the sincere help and support provided by China at times of hardship for Uzbekistan, he said.     Amid the current global financial crisis, Uzbekistan is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in such sectors as the economy, trade, energy and natural resources to jointly tackle the financial crisis.     Uzbekistan is willing to strengthen cooperation with China within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and enhance coordination in international affairs, Karimov said.     Uzbekistan firmly supports China on the issue of Taiwan and issues related to Tibet, he said.     The Chinese president arrived in Russia's Ural mountain city of Yekaterinburg on Sunday for the annual SCO summit, which will discuss how to tackle the international financial crisis and expand cooperation in the political, economic and security fields, and in other areas, among member states.     Founded in 2001, the SCO consists of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top leaders met Monday individual delegates from across the country who were awarded honors in Beijing for their dedication to public order.     President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice President Xi Jinping, and Zhou Yongkang, chief of the Central Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), attended the meeting held at the Great Hall of the People.     The leaders are all members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.     Zhou said at an awarding ceremony after the meeting that local governments had put great endeavor to maintaining stable social order and public security.     He urged Party organs at all levels to take the initiative of blending comprehensive control of social public security with overall economic and social development.     The senior official asked local governments to improve their capability of handling public security emergencies and actively prevent potential social conflicts.     The Chinese government has carried out a strategy to maintain social order and public security by involving volunteers and Party members in enterprises, offices, universities and even the retirees to help the police authorities with information and supervision on minor conflicts and suspected crimes.     At the awarding ceremony which was also viewed nationally by a tele-conference system, outstanding individuals and organizations were given honors for their endeavor and dedication to the country's smooth social order.     Zhou encouraged the honored individuals and institutions to have more innovative ideas and methods to promote the overall control of social order. JINAN, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Thirteen people were confirmed dead and two others fatally injured in a fireworks explosion Saturday afternoon in east China's Shandong Province. The explosion took place at an unlicensed fireworks processing factory in Yangzhuangzi Village of Qingyun Township, Qingyun County, at 1:30 p.m. Three rooms owned by villager Yang Ziye were toppled, according to the Qingyun county government. BEIJING, July 8 (Xinhua)-- China's gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the second quarter this year is forecast to accelerate close to 7.8 percent, Goldman Sachs Asia and the Beijing-based Gaohua Securities Company said in a report Wednesday.     "The figure is above our previous forecast of 7.0 percent year on year," said Song Yu, one author of the report and Goldman Sachs Asia's economist on China's macro-economy.     According to the report, economic performance of China in June will show robust improvements, with the industrial output expected to rise about 10 percent in June from 8.9 percent in May.     Fixed asset investment in June is forecast to grow 42 percent year on year, up from 38.7 percent in May.     Exports is expected to decline 22 percent in June from a year earlier, smaller from a 26.4 percent dip in May, while imports may post a eased drop at 18.0 percent from a 25.2 percent fall in May.     The consumer price index is expected to fall 1.5 percent in June from a year ago, compared with a 1.4 percent drop in May. Producer price index would decline 7.6 percent year on year, compared with a slide of 7.2 percent in May.     Zhou Xiaochun, governor of the country's central bank, said in late June that the second quarter is expected to be better than the first, when the gross domestic product grew 6.1 percent. The National Bureau of Statistics said in June that China's GDP will grow close to eight percent in the second quarter.     China is due to release its second-quarter GDP data in mid-July.

SHANGHAI, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Standard Chartered Bank (China) Limited announced Wednesday that it plans to issue 3.5 billion yuan (512 million U.S.dollars) financial bonds in China, the first foreign bank to issue Renminbi bonds in the Chinese mainland.     The announcement was made in the wake of a circular released by the State Council in April on building Shanghai into an international financial center and shipping hub.     The municipal government of Shanghai convened a working meeting late last month on preparation for the financial center goal, promising to support foreign banks to issue yuan-denominated bonds.     "As China's financial market continues to liberalize, Standard Chartered is seeing a number of opportunities for our business," said Peter Sands, Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered Bank, during his visit to Beijing this week.     The issuance is expected to help elevate the Renminbi's status as an international reserve currency, develop local capital markets, and contribute towards Shanghai's development as a global financial center, said Sands.     Standard Chartered Group reported 26 percent income growth in 2008, or 13.97 billion U.S. dollars despite the difficult global economic environment.     In China, the bank has grown by an average annual compounded growth rate of 80 percent over the past four years.     Standard Chartered Bank is China's oldest foreign bank enjoying150 years of history. It is among the first batch of locally-incorporated foreign banks and has one of the largest foreign bank networks operating in China.
