During the meetings in Thailand, Wen said the China-ASEAN fund will be available by the end of this year as the fundraising of 1 billion dollars for the first phase is almost completed, said Yang. These and other policy measures will provide timely assistance for ASEAN countries, which were hit hard by the current global financial crisis, added Yang. Meanwhile, the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area would be put in place by 2010 as planned, said Yang. Wen urged the two sides to make the most of it and promote exchanges and cooperation in various sectors between the two sides. For this end, China will host a China-ASEAN Free Trade Area forum next year, set up a portal website with the ASEAN nations, establish economic cooperation zones in the ASEAN nations and remove technical trade barriers, Yang noted. The Chinese premier also raised proposals on enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including infrastructure construction, agriculture, environment protection, new and renewable energies, prevention and control of A/H1N1 influenza as well as promoting social and cultural exchanges, said Yang. The leaders attending the meetings expressed high appreciation of China's commitment to good-neighborly and friendly policies and cooperation with ASEAN countries. They noted that China, taking practical actions to help ASEAN countries overcome difficulties and meet challenges, has served as a major force in maintaining financial and economic stability in the region, and promoting peace and development, said Yang. Therefore, many ASEAN countries expressed willingness to further cooperation with China, he said.

NEW YORK, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Stopping importing from China may result in an increase in the U.S. trade imbalance, chief economist of the World Bank Justin Yifu Lin said during a speech here on Thursday.     Addressing the audience at a forum about the forecast and views of Chinese economy held at the New York Stock Exchange, Lin said the imbalance between the United States and China actually "reflects some kind of specialization due to the state of development."     The type of products that China exported to the United States are labor-intensive living necessities that the United States will never produce anymore and has no competitive advantages, Lin said. STOCKHOLM, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's Geely Automobile on Wednesday have been confirmed as preferred bidder in the ongoing discussions concerning the possible sale of Volvo Car Corporation.     Ford said while it would be engaging in more detailed and focused negotiations with Geely, no final decisions have been made, reported the Swedish news agency TT.     Ford believes Geely has the potential to be a responsible future owner of Volvo and to take the business forward while preserving its core values and the independence of the Swedish brand. "We have no specific timeline to conclude the discussions," a statement of Ford was quoted as saying by TT.     It also pointed out that Ford would continue to cooperate with Volvo in several areas after a possible sale, Ford said it does not intend to retain a shareholding in Volvo.     "Ford's objective in our discussions with Geely is to secure an agreement that is in the best interests of all the parties," Lewis Booth, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Ford Motor Company, said in the statement.     "Any prospective sale would have to ensure that Volvo has the resources, including the capital investment, necessary to further strengthen the business and build its global franchise, while enabling Ford to continue to focus on and implement our core ONE Ford strategy," Booth added.     "Volvo's management team welcomes today's announcement as a positive step forward," Volvo CEO Stephen Odell said.     "At Volvo, we are continuing to keep our attention firmly fixed on engineering and building great Volvo cars, to reduce our cost base and to return the business to sustainable profitability at the earliest possible opportunity," he added.

BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- China has tightened settlement and sale of foreign exchange by individuals to curb non-normal cross-border capital inflow, according to a statement of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE).     Banks should deny, review or report to foreign exchange regulators, individual purchases or settlements of foreign exchange suspicious of splitting up one deal into several smaller ones to dodge limits on the size of exchange transfer by one person, which is understood to be one of the channels for hot money inflow, said the statement on Wednesday.     Practices including one overseas individual or institution remitting foreign exchange to five or more individuals within China who settle them respectively, or five or more individuals buying foreign exchange and remitting them to one and the same overseas individual or institution, on a single day, every other day or consecutive days, are considered exchange splitting behavior, said the SAFE.     China in 2007 set the limit of up to 50,000 U.S. dollars per year for an individual to exchange between yuan and foreign exchange.
