BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- As millions of Chinese children celebrated Children's Day Monday, Premier Wen Jiabao shared a light moment with 100 young students invited to his office in downtown Beijing.     In two hours squeezed from tight schedule, Wen danced, sang and chatted with the children from all over the country. He encouraged the youngsters to study hard, and to grow up well-educated with loving hearts.     "It is love that brings you together and here today. BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Central Authorities have launched a new round of campaign to crack down on "small coffers" illegally held in the hands of Party and government organizations at different levels.     This year, Party and government departments that completely rely on the budgetary funds are the first to carry out the work and later, the campaign will involve all nongovernmental organizations, state-run companies, and state-held companies, in a step-by-step way, says a document recently issued by the General Offices of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council.     The document, known as "Directions on Deepening the Crackdown of Small Exchequers", criticized the illegal phenomenon, emphasizing that in some areas and departments it has occurred frequently or even seriously. "The masses have responded to it strongly," it says.     It calls these "small coffers" a "cancer" and says they must be eliminated. The illegal phenomenon has resulted in inaccuracy in accounting, disturbance in market order, losses in state income and property and corruption, according to the circular.     It encourages all units concerned to check the problem by themselves and those that pretend to do so will be punished. It pledges to punish those who try to boycott the campaign or retaliate the tippers.     Those that are involving huge sum of the illegal treasuries or criminal activities will be handed over to judicial departments in accordance with law, according to the document.     The Central Authorities have set up a special leading group with members from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Supervision, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Auditing Administration.     In the late 1990s, the Chinese Authorities conducted the first round of auditing and cracking down on "small coffers" throughout the country.

BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced Friday that it will launch two more batches of electronic savings bonds of up to 50 billion yuan (7.32 billion U.S. dollars) since next week.     According to the ministry, one batch of the e-savings bonds of 40 billion yuan has a term of three years, with a fixed annual interest rate of 3.73 percent.     The other, the five-year e-savings bonds, is worth 10 billion yuan at a fixed annual interest rate of four percent.     The two bonds will be issued from July 15 to 31, with interests to be calculated from July 15 and paid annually, said the ministry in a statement on its website.     These bonds are open to only individual investors, the MOF said.     Compared with other types of bonds, the e-savings bond is seen as more convenient for investors. For example, the interest can bepaid through direct deposit into the investor's account.     This is the second time the ministry launches this kind of bond this year, with the first issuance of two batches of e-savings bonds in April.     The ministry also said it would issue two batches of book-entry treasury bonds next week with a face value of 12.48 billion yuan and 12.65 billion yuan each.     One with the face value of 12.48 billion yuan has a term of 91 days, and the issue price, set by competitive bidding, was 99.72 yuan for a face value of 100 yuan. In this sense, the annual yield will be 1.15 percent, the ministry said.     The other has a term of 273 days, and the issue price was set at 99.077 yuan for 100 yuan, with an annual yield of 1.25 percent.     The ministry said the book-entry T-bonds will be sold from July 13 to July 15. Trading of the bonds will begin July 17.

BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- China hopes to increase cooperation with Vietnam to push forward comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, said top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin on Thursday.     "Stronger Sino-Vietnamese cooperation is significant when facing with international financial crisis," Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top advisory body, told Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan in Beijing.     China and Vietnam would hold a friendship year in 2010. "We should grasp the opportunity to promote our friendship," Jia said. SHANGHAI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Kaohsiung mayor Chen Chu met with her Shanghai counterpart Han Zheng Saturday afternoon during her visit to the mainland.     Chen was to promote the World Games, to be held in Taiwan's port city Kaohsiung from July 16 to 26. Shanghai is the last leg of her promotion tour.     Han expressed his confidence in deepening cooperation between the two port cities.     "With development of cross-straits ties, exchanges between Shanghai and Kaohsiung are more frequent than before," he said.
