CHENGDU, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called the past 110 days since the May 12 quake "shocking and touching" when speaking to journalists in southwest China's quake-hit Sichuan Province on Tuesday.     "The past 110 days were days that shocked our minds, and also days that touched our hearts," said Wen. "It's not a long time, but what we did, as witnessed by people all over the world, will go down in history." No major epidemics were reported and industry and agriculture basically resumed.     The nation also demonstrated a kind of great spirit in the quake rescue and relief efforts and gained plenty of precious experiences in coping with emergencies, Wen said. "These will be more everlasting in the quake zone and in our hearts."     Citing soldiers rescuing life around the clock, volunteers taking care of survivors and local people helping each other, Wen expressed his appreciation for all the merits demonstrated on the rescuers and survivors.     Wen said the rebuilding of houses and infrastructures remained the most urgent and difficult task for relief work, citing that it took more than 100 days to fully repair the trunk road linking quake-hit Dujiangyan and Wenchuan and it required no less to keep it open as aftershocks continued to trouble the areas.     According to Wen, in October a nationwide campaign will be launched on donating clothes and quilts to the quake zone to help people there spend winter "safe and sound".     He vowed the central government would continue the relief work as best as it can along with local governments and residents.

TIANJIN, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- China has full confidence and capability to overcome various difficulties to ensure sound and fast economic growth for an even longer period of time, said Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday.     Addressing the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Davos Forum in the north China port metropolis of Tianjin, Wen said China is in the stage of rapid industrialization and urbanization, and has huge potential for economic growth. BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt here Monday. Both agreed to deepen cooperation.     During their talks, Wen said as the first western country to establish diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China 58 years ago, Sweden and China have continued to increase mutual trust and understanding, as well as expand cooperation in all areas.     The recent years, in particular, have seen rapid growth in bilateral trade volume, said Wen, noting that China has become the largest trade partner for Sweden in Asia. BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Prices of real estate in 70 major Chinese cities rose 7.0 percent in July on the same month of last year, 1.2 percentage points lower than the June level, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.     The NDRC, the country's top economic planning organ, said the growth rate had slowed down for six consecutive months.     The price rise was 11.3 percent in January, 10.9 percent in February, 10.7 percent in March, 10.1 percent in April, 9.2 percent in May and 8.2 in June. TAIYUAN, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers on Thursday had finished searching more than half the mud-covered areas in north China after a mud-rock slide left 128 people dead.     Shanxi Provincial Government Secretary-General Wang Qingxian said about 60 percent of the area had been combed. Altogether 2,000-plus rescuers, with the aid of more than 110 excavators, were searching for survivors.     He said Internet claims that hundreds of people were missing was mere speculation.     "The specific figure of the people missing in the disaster has not been established yet," said Wang at a news conference. "We are still evaluating the situation."     He promised timely and transparent updated casualty numbers, adding 36 people had suffered injuries.     If the weather conditions allowed, searchers would finish looking for survivors in three to five days, he said.     Relatives of the dead will get 200,000 yuan (29,215 U.S. dollars) each as compensation, according to the provincial government.     The State Council, China's Cabinet, has set up an accident investigation team, including officials from the State Administration of Work Safety, Shanxi provincial government, Supervision Ministry, Land and Resources Ministry and All China Federation of Trade Unions. Wang Jun, the State Administration of Work Safety director, was heading the team.     The government has begun examinations to more than 700 tailing ponds in the province to avoid similar accidents from happening again.     There was no epidemic at the area and the injured were receiving treatment, said Gao Guoshun, the provincial health department head, at the news conference.     The water there was not polluted after examination, Gao added.     The disaster happened when the bank of a pond holding waste oredregs of an unlicensed mine burst.     Some reports said hundreds were feared to have been buried underneath the mud, but the local government had released no figures concerning the number of missing.     Wang Qingxian said the mine was purchased and transferred to a man named Zhang Peiliang when the local government auctioned it off in 2005.     But Zhang did not apply for new licenses after its safety production license was suspended in 2006 and the mining license expired in 2007.     "It was an accident of grave responsibility after initial analysis," said Wang Dianxue, the State Administration of Work Safety deputy head and also the investigation team deputy head.     The accident occurred around 8 a.m. on Monday in a pond holding waste ore dregs of the Tashan Mine in Xiangfen County, Linfen City, which was soaked by torrential rain.     In total, an area of 30.2 hectares was covered by the mud. The mud-rock flow damaged buildings, trade markets and some residences lying downstream.

BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- China is likely to start monitoring ozone and particle pollution from next year as part of efforts to keep anti-pollution campaigns in force after the Olympics, an environmental official said on Sunday.     Fan Yuansheng, of the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), said the two pollutants had caused great concern and the MEP was making technical preparations to monitor them.     "We should be able to start regular monitoring of ozone and PM2.5 (particle matter) next year, which would lead to measures to deal with them," Fan told a press conference.     He was speaking in response to reports that China's environmental authorities had failed to include fine particles and ozone into their pollution measurements, causing ignorance of health damage caused by the pollutants. Not all the temporary measures will be retained after the Games, but they may provide clues for our future work," he said.     The Chinese government recently warned that more factories could be temporarily shut down and more cars could be restricted from the roads in Beijing if "extremely unfavorable weather condition" occur to deteriorate the air during the Games.     But many Beijing residents are more worried that air pollution could turn bad after the Olympics, with factories reopened, construction resumed and car no longer restricted.     Fan argued that the Olympics would leave environmental legacies to Beijing and China, which has spent billions to clean the environment polluted by rapid industrialization.     For example, the State Council, China's cabinet, has ordered all government cars to keep off the road for one day each week according the last figure of their plate number. This is a continuation of the temporary measures during the Olympic Games, Fan said.     The MEP has launched a research on how to further improve air quality in the entire northern China where Beijing is, since air pollution is not a problem of Beijing alone, he said.     Nearly 90 percent of coal-burning power plants in provinces neighboring Beijing have taken measures to reduce the emission of sulphur dioxide, and many vehicles have been upgraded to meet stricter emission requirements.     Lu Xinyuan, Director General of the MEP's Bureau of Environmental Supervision, said about 200 environmental inspectors have been sent to Beijing and five neighboring provinces to check enterprises on their anti-pollution work.     Meanwhile, 16 environmental groups based in Beijing on Sunday called on local motorists not to drive on Aug. 8, in order to help reduce pollution and road congestions when the Olympics open.     They further encouraged private car owners to use public transport as much as possible during the Olympics and the following Paralympics to "contribute a blue sky to Beijing."     The groups with over 200,000 members hoped the usage of private cars would be reduced by one million times if the campaign are well responded in the next two months, according to Yu Xinbin, member of the Global Village of Beijing, a non-governmental organization.

HARBIN, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin on Saturday urged new social and economic development in northeast China's Heilongjiang province, in accordance with the country's strategy to revitalize the old industrial base.     Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the requirement during an inspection tour of Heilongjiang from Aug. 26 to 30.
