BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese official Li Changchun Thursday called for reform and innovation in promoting the development and prosperity of the country's animation industry.     Li, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark during his visit to the first China Animation and Cartoon Arts Exhibition held in Beijing.     Li said the animation and cartoon arts has played a very important role in enriching people's cultural lives and cultivating new economic growth area.     The country's animation industry is standing at a crucial point, Li said, urging practitioners in the industry to work hard and continue reform and innovation to push for the development and prosperity of the industry. SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- President Barack Obama said here on Monday the United States would continue to fully support the one-China policy, and would be very pleased to see the improving cross-strait relationship.    "I have been clear in the past the United States supports a one-China policy. We do not want change that policy or approach," he said during a dialogue with Chinese youth in the nation's economic hub Shanghai.     "I am very pleased with the reduction of tensions and improvement of the cross-strait relations," he said. GENEVA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- China will maintain the stability of its Renminbi (RMB) exchange rate all along, which does good for the world economic recovery, Commerce Minister Chen Deming said on Monday.     China's exchange rate reform has continued smoothly, and the value of RMB has risen by some 20 percent against the U.S. dollar since 2005, Chen told reporters in Geneva, where he is attending a ministerial conference of the World Trade Organization.     Despite the impact of the global financial crisis and all kinds of other difficulties, the Chinese government has actively tried to boost domestic consumption and stimulate imports, Chen said. BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday again expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, urging the U.S. to respect China's core interests and withdraw related arms sales plan.     "The U.S. arms sales to Taiwan infringe upon China's security interest as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and interfere with China's internal affairs," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu in a statement.     Jiang made the comments in response to a reporter's question on U.S. government approval for Raytheon Company to sell 1.1 billion U.S. dollars of Patriot antimissile system to Taiwan.     "We have raised solemn representations to the U.S. side," said Jiang. "We urge the U.S. to stop arms sales to Taiwan to avoid undermining China-U.S. cooperation."     Jiang said, "We urge the U.S. to clearly recognize the severe consequences of arms sales to Taiwan, reject the cold war mentality, and adhere to the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, especially the principles established in the Joint Communique on Aug. 17, 1982."     The "Aug. 17 communique" stated that the U.S. would not seek to carry out a long-term policy of arms sales to Taiwan, and intended to gradually reduce arms sales.     "We also persuade the Raytheon Company to stop pushing or participating in arms sales to Taiwan, and refrain from doing anything that harms China's sovereignty and security interest," Jiang said.

BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's promise on its carbon dioxide emissions cut target was "a serious and solemn one," said Premier Wen Jiabao here Friday.     Wen made the remarks in a meeting with representatives from India, South Africa, Brazil and the G77 group of developing nations, who were here for consultations with China on climate change issues. The State Council, or the Chinese cabinet, announced Thursday that China was going to reduce the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent compared with the level of 2005. GUANGZHOU, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's railway authorities are gearing up for a real-name ticket selling system to stop ticket scalping during the upcoming Spring Festival traffic rush. The pilot system announced Friday requires passengers to show their ID cards or other identification documents when purchasing train tickets at 37 stations in the southern Guangdong and Hunan provinces, and also the southwestern province of Sichuan.     Millions of migrant workers from inland provinces like Sichuan and Hunan work in Guangdong, known as China's "factory of the world."     The system will take effect during the Spring Festival traffic peak season, from Jan. 30 to March 30.
