The company's latest move includes the opening of an AI and internet of things lab in May 2019, the third and largest of its kind in the world. The first batch of 30 clients stand to benefit from turning prototyping into products by leveraging Microsoft's AI and IoT solutions, said Lin Miaojing, project director of the Microsoft AI and IoT lab.
The company quickly formed a research team, and drew more than 400 equipment drafts within three days. They then spent seven days turning the drafts into actual machines. For each mask-making machine, BYD took charge of 90 percent of the 1,300-plus components, including the gears, chains and rollers. Within a month, BYD created 100 mask production lines.
The company said Amazon Web Services Inc has signed up with Ningxia Western Cloud Data Technology Co Ltd to offer customer services, marking AWS' second region in China outside of Beijing.
The company, employing more than 40 staff, most of whom are under 30, is only one example of China's emerging commercial space industry.
The company's carrier business, which includes Huawei's telecom equipment and services, recorded about one percent loss in revenue in 2018, as it faces security allegations in some markets. Huawei has repeatedly said such allegations are groundless and not backed by factual evidence.
The company said net revenue for the third quarter of 2019 rose 10 percent year-on-year to 19.6 billion yuan, compared with 17.8 billion yuan for the same period a year ago. Its net profit stood at 1.2 billion yuan, an increase of 140.2 percent year-on-year from 500.8 million yuan in the same period a year earlier.
