BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan said on Thursday the country is fully confident and capable of overcoming the current economic difficulties, vowing to work closely with other countries to safeguard stability of the global financial market.     Wang, in his meeting with former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, said China has already taken relevant measures to face up to the turbulences of the international financial market.     As the largest developing country and a rising market, China's priority is to well handle its own problems, he said.     He believes China has great potential in domestic market and economic growth, adding the country would continue to take measures to maintain the stable and relatively fast economic development.     "The Chinese government is to strengthen coordination with other countries to face up to the global crisis and promote the stability of the global economic and financial market," Wang told Schroeder.     He appreciated the former German Chancellor's contribution to cementing bilateral ties. BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- The country's top 500 giants are narrowing gap with foreign counterparts, but they still lag behind, the China Enterprise Confederation announced in its release of the 2008 Top 500 Chinese enterprises list on Saturday.     According to the report, the total revenue of the top 500 Chinese enterprises reached 2.99 trillion U.S. dollars (1 dollar=7.3046 yuan, calculated under the exchange rate in 2007), profits 188.4 billion U.S. dollars and assets 8.17 trillion U.S. dollars.Revenues were equivalent to 12.67 percent of the global top 500, profits equaled 11.85 percent and assets 7.79 percent, compared with 10.7 percent, 6.5 percent and 7.8 percent respectively last year.     Analysts said the growing proportion of revenue and profits indicated that Chinese companies had become more competitive and profitable.     Confederation deputy president Li Jianming said the country's growing economy had benefited these enterprises in spite of price hikes for oil and other materials.     He also said private enterprises had grown more robust and capable of taking in advanced technology and management from world giants. They accounted for about a fifth of the country's top 500 enterprises.     In addition, their rising investment in research and development and their emphasis on exploring the domestic market increased competition. The growth rate of net profits of the country's top 500 was 19 times faster than that of the world's top500.     However, another confederation deputy president Wang Jiming said Chinese enterprises still fell behind in innovation, investment in research and development, and the ability to operate internationally. It would take a long time to catch up.     Only 39 enterprises reported overseas sales income of more than 30 percent of the total revenue. Research and development spending accounted for only 1.32 percent of their total revenue, compared with the international average of 3 percent to 5 percent.     Poor supply chain management also lagged behind. Logistics coststill accounted for much of the total output, twice that of the world average. Haier and Huawei were among the few enterprises that paid adequate attention to supply chain management.     Sinopec Corp, Asia's top oil refiner, retained top spot for the fourth straight year on the Top 500 Chinese Enterprises list with its business revenue exceeding 1.2 trillion yuan, (175.2 billion U.S. dollars), the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) said on Saturday.     The oil giant was followed by the State Grid and PetroChina Company.     The top 500 companies paid taxes of 1.74 trillion yuan, accounting for 35.2 percent of the national tax revenue.     Baosteel Group Co. and China FAW Corporation and Hongfujin Precision Industry (Shenzhen) Co. held the top three positions in manufacturing sector.     The State Grid Corp. of China, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and China Mobile ranked the top three in the service sector.

BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's securities supervisor said on Friday that the heavy slump on the country's equities market was caused by a combination of factors, both domestic and foreign.     These included a need for internal correction, increasing uncertainties on the global markets and frequent natural disasters, China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) spokesman said at a press conference.     The unsound mechanism and structure of the country's equities market worsened the situation and widened the range of the correction, he said.     The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.56 percent to 2,450.61 points on Friday, closing out the week slightly higher after five days of losses. The key index has tumbled nearly 60 percent from its peak in October.     However, the trend of a steady and healthy performance would remain unchanged, he said, as the country's economy maintained steady and fast growth.     CSRC would study the emerging problems, promote the improvement of basic systems and optimize the structure of fund raising, he said.     CSRC would also adjust new share supply in line with market demand, enhancing the market mechanism in regulation.     The commission has slowed new share issues this year in an effort to brake the steep index declines as any mention of new share offering would cause a sharp plunge in the index.     From January to July, CSRC only approved the new offering (at least 100 million shares) of four companies, which raised a combined 64.32 billion yuan (9.38 billion U.S. dollars). Both the frequency and amount decreased, by 64 percent and 49 percent respectively, compared with the same 2007 period.     The commission would join with the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission to set up a real-time monitoring system to supervise transfer of the state-owned shares.

Asahi Breweries Ltd., Japan's largest beer producer, is targeting the Chinese milk products market with an all-around manner with its new milk factory being under construction in China's Shandong Province, company officials told Xinhua Saturday.     A milk company, which has been building the factory, was established in Laiyang city, Shandong Province, in April. It's the first time for a large-scale Japanese corporation to enter the Chinese integrated milk business in the fields of both production and sales.     The company is owned 90 percent by Asahi. Business of the new company will involve the entire process from raising cows to marketing, while products will be sold to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Qingdao under Asahi's proprietary label, according to Asahi Breweries officials.     Price of the Asahi milk products will be about 50 percent to 100 percent higher than average local milk, and sales in the first year will be targeted at 1 ton per day, they said.
