BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki exchanged views over the phone Friday on promoting further development of bilateral relations in 2009 and international and regional issues of common concern.     On the situation in the Gaza Strip, Yang said China is seriously concerned and deeply worried about the grave humanitarian crisis caused by the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.     China has made unremitting efforts to promote adoption by the United Nations Security Council of a relevant resolution on Gaza, Yang said.     He said China welcomes and supports U.N. Security Council Resolution 1860 and urges all the parties concerned to fully honor the resolution, cease fire immediately, ensure smooth operation of humanitarian assistance and promote an early relaxation of the humanitarian crisis taking place in Gaza.     China has always proposed that the issue of Palestine be resolved through political negotiation on the basis of related U.N. resolutions, the "Land for Peace" principle and the Arab Peace Initiative, he added.

It will be formally signed by Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan and U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.     Fourth, institutions including China's NDRC and the China Exim Bank, as well as the U.S. Trade and Development Agency and the Export-Import Bank of the United States, will sign a memorandum of understanding on measures to support the 10-year energy cooperation.     Fifth, seven eco-partnerships from the two countries will sign letters of intent on cooperation. These agreements include one involving China's southwestern Chongqing Municipality, the U.S. city of Denver and car maker Ford on an electric and hybrid automobile project.     The two-day SED, which is to end on Friday, also covers macro-economic risks, trade challenges and the investment environment.

GENEVA, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The World Economic Forum (WEF) is "very proud" that it has managed to maintain "very positive" ties with China, a senior WEF official has said.     "We all know that China is an important factor in the future evolution and development of worldwide economy. So we are all very interested in what China will be doing," said Andre Schneider, managing director and chief operating officer of the Geneva-based organization.     In a recent interview with Xinhua before next week's opening of the 2009 WEF annual meeting, also known as the Davos Forum, in the Swiss Alpine skiing resort Davos.     More than 40 heads of state or government, including Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, and some 1,400 business leaders, have confirmed their participation at the five-day meeting scheduled to deal with the ongoing financial crisis and other global challenges.     Premier Wen's participation will certainly be "a unique opportunity" for the world to better understand what are the plans of the Chinese leadership to deal with the crisis, Schneider said.     Schneider noted the first two WEF annual meetings of the new champions, dubbed "Summer Davos Forum," were both held in China, in Dalian in 2007 and Tianjin a year later.     The success of the "Summer Davos Forum," a gathering of new multinational companies from China and across the world to explore the mechanisms of continued and sustainable growth, indicated the strong collaboration between the two sides, he said.     The WEF's choice of China as the host of the "Summer Davos Forum" was "an absolutely right one," he said.     Schneider noted that cooperation between the WEF and China started in 1979, when China first sent a delegation to the Davos Forum.     China and its economic growth has been a topic of interest for participants at the Davos Forum in recent years.     In June 2006, the organization opened a representative office in Beijing, which aims to deal with all interactions with China. BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's premium revenue is expected to hit one trillion yuan (146.3 billion U.S. dollars) this year due to strengthened promotion and increasing demand, said a senior official here on Sunday.     The premium revenue grew at an annual rate of 30 percent from 460 million yuan in 1980, when insurance business began to enter into full swing in China, to hit 703.58 billion yuan in 2007, said vice chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) Zhou Yanli at the opening ceremony of an insurance exhibition.     The revenue in the first eight months this year rose 52.24 percent year on year to 713.40 billion yuan which exceeded the total of last year, he said.     The revenue for the whole year is likely to break one trillion yuan at the current pace, he predicted.     The development of China's insurance business had been halted for 20 years after the founding of the new China in 1949. After the opening up and reform initiated in 1979, the sector was on the way to the right track and entered into full swing.     The value of the industry assets totaled more than three trillion yuan, which is owned by more than 110 insurers, according to Zhou.     Despite of the progress, insiders noted the revenue growth is poised to slow down in the fourth quarter of 2008 and the first half of 2009 as insurers are expected to retain dividends to protect its profit margin which was hurt by stock investment returns slumps. That is likely to discourage the future premium growth.     China Life, the nation's largest life insurer, saw premium jump52.9 percent from a year ago to 23.44 billion yuan in September, much slower than the 93.7 percent growth in August. The combined revenue in the first nine months totaled 248.6 billion yuan, up 56.7 percent year on year, comparing with the 57.14 percent growth in August.

BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- China held a reception here on Friday to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty signing, calling on both nations to make joint efforts to further boost bilateral relations.     President Hu Jintao and visiting Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso attended the reception.     Recalling the history of the Sino-Japanese relations, Hu said 30 years ago senior leaders, including late leader Deng Xiaoping and ex-Japanese Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda, made a strategic decision to sign the treaty.     He called it an important historic document in bilateral ties since the normalization of relations in 1972.     Hu said the treaty had for the first time nailed down the general direction of bilateral ties featuring peaceful co-existence and long-term friendship. He added it had played an important role in pushing forward the ties in a correct fashion.     Since then, peace, friendship and cooperation remained in the mainstream of the relation despite some twists and turns, he said.     The four political documents signed between the two countries had laid a political foundation for the long term stable development of bilateral ties, Hu said, adding both sides had made hard-won progress in cooperation in various areas.     After the normalization of the ties, the political and economic exchanges between the two nations had developed quickly.     On Oct. 23, 1978, China and Japan exchanged documents of ratification of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship during the visit of the then Chinese Vice Premier Deng to Japan. This had become one of the four important political documents (the other three are the joint statement in 1972, the joint declaration in 1998 and the joint statement in May) for the ties.     Hu thanks all those who had contributed to cementing the China-Japan friendship, adding insightful officials of two countries, including the seven Japan-China friendship institutions, had made great efforts to push forward bilateral friendship, despite the variety of domestic and international situations.     The Sino-Japanese relations were at a new starting point to create history and faced important opportunities for further development.     "We are willing to work with the Japanese side to increase political mutual trust, intensify cooperation and friendly exchanges to advance China-Japan strategic and reciprocal relations," Hu noted.     Aso highlighted the bilateral exchanges and cooperation of the past 30 years, attributing the development of the relation to people who were working hard to push forward the ties.     China and Japan are permanent neighbors, and the relations between the two should be in the nature of indispensable partnership. Aso called on the two countries to continue their dialogue and exchanges at various levels and cement consultation and cooperation in aim to achieve joint development and help to promote the stability and prosperity of Asia and the world.     Aso arrived in China on Thursday evening to attend the seventh Asia-Europe Meeting. It was his first visit since taking office last month.
